First Snow of The Year!
Welcome to Virginia Tech Cold War 2014!
On the first day of school, Tech returning students were greeted with a few inches of snow. Naturally, as soon as the classes were over the crowds filled the Drillfield and sham-battle was on. As usual the civilians outnumbered cadets. Nevertheless, you can tell that real-life military training trumped the keyboard heros of Dungeons and Dragons/Call of Duty. Despite being grossly outnumbered Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets held their own and made a few daring advances, taking prisoners, names, kicking asses, and chewing bubble gum in the process.
Here a handful of photos. I just happened to drive around Drillfield when the skirmish broke out. I had no flash, so the photos are truly grainy. Still, I love this "snowball battle between the corps of cadets and civilians" tradition so much that I thought some of Hokies, who had left the mothership some time ago, might appreciate looking at this small gallery and perhaps recall a day when they themselves engaged in these Cold Wars.
20+ (very grainy) photos in the gallery. Enjoy!
